Dear Raul:

I apologize for the late reply.

You are completely right. It is all about choice. It is about having option. I would rather have the option to do something than not even have an idea about something. It is great that you were able to reconnect with your friends and family in Chile so quickly and find out they were doing fine!

That's the point. I think more and more focus should be placed on teaching people how to evaluate and make the right choices in this world! We have more options than ever, yet they seem to limit us instead of liberating!

Best,
Tomas

A very thought provoking article Tomas. I am a freelance web designer and internet is my place. At certain times I too used to think it is my life but not any more. As per your another article it is just a mens to a greater end. I used to sit like zombie in front of computer and now I am only interested in sites or blogs that enhance my knowledge in web designing so I may know the latest or help me lead a meaningful life like your blog is doing. I have fixed Saturday to read tweets for the week and only guys I follow is master of their field. I used to check mail every half an hour and now it is thrice a day that too becuase clients expect response. No more bothered about this and that on Internet as I know it very well that it wont serve my purpose and I will be getting this disease you wrote " Information Obesity".

Thanks for these inputs of life and please keep up the good work. You are a rock star in what you are doing and nothing is more good than to be a tool of lord and write to improve lives of his children :)

Warm Regards

Nice post Tomas,

"Strong gets stronger, weak gets weaker" The description you make there clearly explains how someone can become successful in life.

You could sell this post as an ebook on self improvement, it's a lot more powerful than most stuff in the market right now :)

Thanks for a great article! I hope it inspires at least one reader to lift. I injured myself over a year ago, and am becoming less able to move each day. I miss lifting - it empowered me, made me believe that I could change myself and my reality. Please believe that as soon as I am able, I'll be back in the gym, using good stress to alleviate bad. Trece

Adventure! I like that word.

We can watch the fireworks from the confort of home, but isn't it more fun to be there? To feel the bangs and smell the smoke? Also, isn't it fun to make a mistake and get all wet in the rain when we thought it'll be sunny? (sometimes).

Technology, as you mention, is a wonderful thing that, when not abused, can be of such help. With the past earthquake in Chile, my country, thanks to technology it took me just about two hours to find out that all my family and friends back there were fine (such a relief!) yet without this technology probably I would have to wait several weeks for news in the mail.

I agree with you when you say you wouldn't live any other time but now. Growing in South America in the 70's to the US today the change in technology used I've seen is incredible! So many things that can be done now, and also so many ways to become lazy and useless if we rely too much in it.

Good thing we have all this technology available to us nowadays, we just have to keep an eye on ourselves to use it as an advantage to do more instead of the meaning of our own doom as human beings.

Raul:

Very thought provoking. I cannot say that I have thought about some of the points that you are making. I understand where you are coming from and love that you said that it "has to start with parents guiding their kids to know and choose when and before taking bigger responsibilities."

It has to start somewhere and you are right, somebody has to make sacrifices. Most of the time it is our parents. I know that because my parents are making sacrifices to provide with opportunities that they did not have.

I guess that is where it starts. And that is part of the reason why I am writing this blog. I want to encourage others to look at life differently and see that they have choice and options. Just like you said, making a change is difficult most of the time, but that is just the nature of life. Growth requires stress.

Yet, I still believe that we live our lives for ourselves and not for others. Granted, we have to take responsibility for our actions, yet if we go through life with best intentions towards everybody and do not intentionally harm others, we have no responsibility of how others react to our actions and choices.

Maybe I am just too young and inexperienced, but this is how I feel about life right now.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, like always.

Sincerely,
Tomas

Hi Tomas,

I agree with you in the point of searching for our passions and taking our lives in that direction; is not just having a job, is having dreams what makes our lives worth of living, otherwise we become "material stuff accumulators and consumers"

However...

We must take in consideration our surroundings and those around us when we decide. I would love to grab a backpack and go see the world; take ten years traveling and living day by day while seeing this planet. I have that dream for the past 20 years! But...

I am married for 26 years and she is not of that idea, so it is living the dream or divorce; go for what I want or stay for what I should do, like being the father of my son and the husband for my wife.

What you mention is very true, but has to start with parents guiding their kids to know and choose when and before taking bigger responsibilities.

Living life implies time and time is not reversible, once there, in some cases, you cannot change direction completely without creating damage or hurting feelings, but only adjust your aim to the closest thing possible, thus the importance of parents and quality parenting to guide their children.
